Dante’s Paradiso, often thrown into shadow by the first two parts of The Divine Comedy, features one of the most sublime, luminous, and exciting visions in all of literature—that of Heaven itself.

Peter Bondanella is Distinguished Professor of Comparative Literature and Italian at Indiana University. Julia Conaway Bondanella is Professor of Italian at Indiana University. Both have translated works from Italian and have published extensively on Italian culture and art.

    Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), a major Italian poet of the late Middle Ages, has been called the father of the Italian language. His classic masterpiece, The Divine Comedy, is widely considered to be the greatest literary work ever composed in Italian, and his writing has inspired a wide range of artists including sculptor Auguste Rodin, composer Franz Liszt, and numerous authors, such as Geoffrey Chaucer, John Milton, and T.S. Eliot.

    Poète américain né en 1807 à Portland dans le Maine, mort à Cambridge, Massachussets, en 1882. Son oeuvre abondante participe à la naissance d'une nouvelle aventure littéraire nourrie de romantisme et d'histoire. Longfellow a traduit en anglais La Divine comédie de Dante.
