Historien de formation, Benoît Clairoux a commencé à se passionner pour la politique dès l'adolescence. En 1989, il a suivi avec intérêt la campagne électorale qui a reporté au pouvoir le gouvernement de Robert Bourassa. Le soir de l'élection, il a veillé très tard pour écouter tous les discours à la télévision… au point de se lever en retard pour l'école le lendemain! Lorsqu'il a eu l'âge requis, il s'est impliqué davantage en politique, devenant membre de divers partis et travailleur d'élections. Il n'a toutefois jamais eu le courage d'être candidat, et encore moins la volonté de devenir un jour premier ministre du Québec!
