Né en 1966 à Brighton, en Angleterre, Philip Reeve habite aujourd'hui avec sa femme et leur fils dans le comté de Dartmoor. Il a d'abord été libraire avant de devenir illustrateur de grand talent puis auteur à succès. Avec «Mécaniques fatales», paru en 2001, il signe son premier roman qui reçoit un accueil enthousiaste ainsi que de nombreux prix littéraires. Porté à l'écran par Peter Jackson en 2018, il s'agit du premier tome d'une série époustouflante, «Mortal Engines», qui comprend trois autres volumes. Véritable Jules Verne contemporain, Philip Reeve sait aussi bien créer des mondes fantastiques, tel celui de «Planète Larklight» que s'approprier des univers légendaires, comme celui du roi Arthur et des chevaliers de la Table ronde, qu'il a revisité dans un roman pour adolescents : «Arthur, l'autre légende», récompensé par la prestigieuse Canergie Medal.
