Résumé
"Animal Farm" by George Orwell is an allegorical novella that tells the story of a group of farm animals who overthrow their human farmer, Mr. Jones, in hopes of creating a society where all animals are equal, free, and happy. However, as the pigs take over leadership—particularly the cunning and manipulative Napoleon—the farm gradually becomes a dictatorship just as oppressive as the one they overthrew. The story serves as a powerful satire of totalitarian regimes, especially Stalinist Russia, highlighting themes of power, propaganda, corruption, and betrayal. The famous line "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" captures the central irony of the book.
