UN MONDE EN QUÊTE DE SENS

L'homme ne supporte pas de vivre dans l'absurde. Il a un besoin vital de donner un sens à ce qu'il vit. Or, de nos jours, une profonde mutation socio-culturelle bouscule toutes les croyances et exhorte chacun à visiter ses propres convictions, à se poser des questions auxquelles on pensait peut-être avoir trouvé une réponse une fois pour toutes, comme, par exemple : pourquoi croire ou ne pas croire ? Michel Hubaut ne fait pas ici une apologie du Credo chrétien, il se propose d'aider chacun à se risquer sur le chemin dynamique de la foi, sans esquiver les réelles difficultés à croire que tous rencontrent aujourd'hui. Sa démarche est d'abord d'écouter ceux qui sont étrangers à la foi ou qui l'ont abandonnée. Le croyant qu'il est cherche ensuite à comprendre ce que l'Esprit peut nous dire au travers de l'image déformée de la foi chrétienne renvoyée parfois par le miroir du monde. Il en est convaincu : nous avons aujourd'hui besoin de témoins de la foi, sans complexes ni agressivité, humbles, assez lucides pour aimer leur époque et discerner ses grandeurs et ses limites, respectueux du cheminement de Dieu au cœur de chacun. À l'opposé des croisés de la foi qui pensent détenir la Vérité, pleins de mépris envers ceux qui doutent. Tout chrétien est invité à retrouver le jaillissement et la vivacité de la Bonne Nouvelle du Christ, pour la dégager de l'écorce de la religion. Il s'agit aussi de manifester que la foi au Dieu de Jésus Christ, loin de fabriquer des sous-hommes, donne de nouvelles raisons de vivre. Il serait malhonnête de discourir sur la joie de croire si l'on omettait de rappeler que la foi est un itinéraire, un voyage au long cours, une histoire toujours en chantier, un doute sans cesse surmonté. En effet, le Dieu de Jésus Christ est si déroutant qu'il nous pose plus de questions qu'il ne nous apporte de réponses. Ce sont pourtant celles qui nous poussent vers les véritables interrogations.

All Christians are invited to rediscover the vital energy at the fountain of Christ’s Gospel, to strip it free of the husk of religion. It is also a question of demonstrating one’s faith that the God of Jesus Christ, far from producing inferior human beings, is giving us new reasons to live. It would be dishonest to talk about the joy of believing without mentioning that faith is a journey, a long-term journey, a story always in the writing, a doubt constantly overcome. In truth, the God of Jesus Christ is so astonishing that he asks us more questions than he gives us answers. Yet they are the questions that urge us to the essential interrogations.
