Résumé
--
On should not be misled by the title of this volume, Figures de théologiens. It consists of theological portraits, and not biographical, psychological or literary ones. In it, I discuss only deceased theologians, exploring their theology, orientations and practices rather than their ideas. I have been personally very close to many of these people, but others I have only met or read. My motives for writing about one or another have mostly been dictated by my duties as editor of the journal ‘Recherches de science religieuse’, on the occasion of the death of a colleague or as an introduction to a special issue or, as was more often the case, in response to a request from another journal, or when invited to preface or review a book. The texts reproduced here are therefore quite unrepresentative of my affinity with such-and-such an author or of how a certain author has influenced me, as though I’d wanted to chart my own intellectual biography through these portraits. In the hope that today’s readers might recognise past reflections on questions that they still find, in new forms, on the horizon of their own research, and that they will take an interest in their precursors’ thoughts, as well as the trajectory of theology whose future has already been passed on to them.
