Résumé

Clément and his brother travel to Istanbul with the goal of finding the grave of Carole, the first born child of their maternal grandparents. Carole died shortly after her birth and just a few years before her parents, Armenians in Istanbul, would leave for France. Clément interviews his grandparents and his mother, aware that certain things are remaining unsaid. After numerous unsuccessful searches in Turkey, he begins to realize that what he and his brother have accomplished is a work of introspection rather than an investigation into an established fact. A magnificent literary exploration—accomplished with visual flair—of our conscious and unconscious realities; of the influence relationships and family history hold over our psyches.

Après avoir hésité un temps avec des études en médecine, Clément Fabre se plonge dans le cinéma. Il y travaille en tant qu'assistant caméra pendant presque 10 ans. Au milieu des années 2000, il ajoute l'initiale C. à son nom et se réoriente vers la bande-dessinée. Dans un premier temps, ses projets naissent de ses rencontres, comme avec Martin Page (« Le Banc de touche », Warum!, 2012), Olivier Milhaud (« Explicite », Delcourt, 2015), Fabien Grolleau (« Le Chantier », Marabulles, 2018), Benoist Simmat et Aymeric Mantoux ("Révolutionnaires", RobinSon, 2018), ou encore Joseph Safieddine ("Salade tomate oignon", Lapin, 2021). Avec ce dernier et Thomas Cadène, il réalise le titre « BFF » (Dupuis, 2019-2020) qui sera publié une première fois sous forme de webtoon et leur vaudra une nomination aux Eisner Award en 2021. En 2022, Clément travaille sur son premier projet en tant qu'auteur complet, « Carole » (Dargaud, 2023). Dans cette BD, il questionne ses origines arméno-turques et le mystère de la transmission intergénérationnelle. Quand il ne s'occupe pas d'images, il se passionne pour le rock'n'roll garage 60's et la physique quantique.
