Résumé
--
By presenting some great figures from the long-standing tradition of the Oratoire de France, Gilbert Caffin illustrates a unique way of being a Christian in the world, in harmony with one’s time. Bérulle, Simon, Malebranche, Lamy, Gratry, Laberthonnière... Their differences and their complementarity, not to mention their demands, are evidence of a very special ambience, of an ‘air we breathe’, as it is often described in Oratorian-run parishes and colleges. This book highlights the inspiration of a group of priests who, for the past four hundred years (1611-2011) have dedicated themselves to serve their contemporaries in the Church of France, a tradition twice interrupted - in 1791 and 1905 - and twice resumed - in 1852 and 1920. This group, though modest, is aware of its rich spiritual heritage, which can still nourish the faith of Jesus Christ’s disciples in this period of great upheaval. This book echoes the conferences given by the author at the church of Saint Eustace, in Paris, during this jubilee year.
