Résumé
--
The destruction of the second temple during the siege of Jerusalem in the year 70CE put an end to all sacrificial ritual, causing a deep political and religious crisis. From being a ritual, sacrifice became the object of study: the Talmud, the expression of oral law, established the spiritualisation of the biblical sacrificial system. The quality and the legitimacy of sacrifice are now functions of the thoughts of the offering and those of the officiating priest the indispensable ritual acts must be performed with the appropriate thoughts forgiveness becomes central. The Bible and the Torah are only in apparent contradiction on the subject of the ritual of sacrifice, which becomes ‘the ground of a vast reflection’. Thanks to a meticulous reading of the biblical text, Jean Hirsch guides us in the fascinating and complex world of the Talmud, laying bare its deep theology.
