Résumé
--
What is the relationship between Greek ‘mimesis’ and ‘imitatio Christi’? Both concern imitation, which happens to be as common as it is specific. This book sets out to study the varieties of imitation, tracing their differences and points of convergence. This book presents ‘mimesis’, then the imitation of Jesus Christ, as they appear in their initial emergence, as well as in their later developments, thus following the thread of Platonic, then Aristotelian ‘mimesis’, up to the emergence of ‘phantasia’. It then follows the primitive ‘imitatio Christi’ movement, from Ignatius of Antioch up to its modern developments with Francis de Sales and Pascal, and finally explores its mutations beyond its original field.
