His works explore symbolism, initiation, sacred knowledge, and the unity underlying all authentic spiritual paths. After relocating to Egypt in 1930, he embraced Sufism and lived the remainder of his life in Cairo, deepening his engagement with Islamic mysticism. Today, Guénon remains a key influence on scholars, seekers, and spiritual thinkers worldwide.

    René Guénon (1886-1951) est une figure majeure de la pensée métaphysique et traditionnelle du XXe siècle. Né à Blois, il suit des études en mathématiques et en philosophie, tout en se passionnant pour les doctrines spirituelles de l’Orient. Rejetant le rationalisme et le matérialisme modernes, il consacre sa vie à la restauration de ce qu’il appelle la « Tradition primordiale » : un noyau métaphysique commun aux grandes religions révélées.

    Son œuvre, dense et rigoureuse, vise à exposer les principes universels des doctrines traditionnelles, en particulier celles de l’hindouisme et de l’islam soufi.

    En 1930, il s’installe au Caire, se convertit à l’islam sous le nom d’Abdel Wahid Yahia, et vit dans une grande discrétion au sein d’un milieu soufi. Il continue à écrire et à correspondre avec des penseurs d’Europe et d’Asie.

    Guénon reste aujourd’hui une référence incontournable dans le domaine de la métaphysique comparée, de l’ésotérisme et de la critique de la modernité, influençant notamment des auteurs comme Ananda Coomaraswamy, Frithjof Schuon ou Mircea Eliade.
