The book comprises three parts. The first part addresses the little-discussed but crucial events preceding the assassination of the presidents of Rwanda and BurundiFormer UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali declared, "The Rwandan genocide was 100% American Responsibility."Former UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali declared, "The Rwandan genocide was 100% American Responsibility."on April 6, 1994, which triggered massive killings. These include the invasion in 1990, drawn-out guerrilla and terrorist warfare, imposition of a new political and economic order followed by an ill named “peace process” that sanctified the occupation of the country by the invading army, and the assassination of two African heads of state.The second part, “The Heart of Dark Imaginations,” shows how popular literature on Rwanda has been built on the old clichés, metaphors, and conventions generated during 400 years of slavery, the slave trade, and colonialism, and helped justify them. Robin Philpot (auteur)

Robin Philpot est né et a grandi à Thunder Bay, en Ontario. Diplômé en histoire et en lettres anglaises de l’Université de Toronto, il a séjourné en Afrique de l’Ouest dans les années 1970 et a enseigné l’anglais et l’histoire au Burkina Faso. Établi au Québec depuis 1974, il a travaillé entre autres pour Hydro-Québec de 1987 à 1999, notamment dans les relations avec les Autochtones et dans les relations internationales. Il est l’auteur de plusieurs livres en français et en anglais, dont Oka : dernier alibi du Canada anglais (1991, 2000, 2010), Ça ne s’est pas passé comme ça à Kigali (2003), Les secrets d’Option Canada (avec Normand Lester, 2006), Derrière l’État Desmarais : Power (2008, 2014), A People’s History of Quebec (avec Jacques Lacoursière, 2009), Rwanda and the New Scramble for Africa (2013). Robin Philpot anime aussi Le pied à Papineau à la radio de CIBL 101,5, émission de politique et de culture québécoises et internationales. Le pied à Papineau a gagné le tire de « Émission de l’année 2015, choix du public » à CIBL. Avec le concours de Denis Vaugeois, Robin Philpot a fondé Livres Baraka inc. en 2009 dans le but notamment de faire rayonner les écrits du Québec dans le monde anglophone.
