Proust’s sexuality was the subject of much speculation, and although he never confirmed it, he explored the subject of homosexuality in many of his works, including ‘In Search of Lost Time.’ Some of his works have found themselves adapted for film, such as ‘Swann in Love,’ starring Jeremy Irons, while the writer himself was to be lampooned by the comedy troupe Monty Python.

Né à Aubagne le 28 février 1895, Marcel Pagnol a été tour à tour dramaturge, romancier, cinéaste, mais aussi directeur de studios, d'agences de distribution, producteur et directeur de presse. Travaillant avec les plus grands interprètes de son époque (Fernandel, Pierre Fresnay et Raimu), il a mis en scène ses propres œuvres ( Marius , Fanny , César , Topaze ) et réalisé plusieurs films d'après les romans d'un autre écrivain provençal, Jean Giono ( Angèle , Regain , La Femme du Boulanger ). Ses films sont aujourd'hui des classiques du cinéma français. Élu à l'Académie française en 1946, il a signé plusieurs romans, dont la trilogie consacrée à ses souvenirs d'enfance : La Gloire de mon père (1957), Le Château de ma mère (1957) et Le Temps des secrets (1960). Une des constantes de l'œuvre de Marcel Pagnol est son ancrage dans le sud de la France. Déjouant les pièges du régionalisme, il fit de son pays le centre du monde grâce à la dimension universelle de chacune de ses histoires, de chacun de ses personnages.
