Résumé

This classic, early 19th century science fiction masterpiece serves as both a wonderful period presentation of the time as well as a cautionary tale. Called by many a "chilling novel account of a Martian invasion of London in the nineteenth century – a science fiction classic for all time." It was made famous by Orson Welles Mercury Theatre mid 20th Century adaptation that literally had thousands of people running for their lives at the time in the Northeast U.S.

H. G. Wells was an English writer, remembered mostly for his science fiction works. Often described as a futurist, H. G. Wells’s influence cannot be neglected for his works foresaw many technological innovations such as space travel, the atomic bomb, and the Internet. Four times Nobel Prize in Literature nominee, Wells explored a wide array of themes in his works, occupying one of the central seats in the canon of British literature. Some of his best works include the time-travel novel “The Time Machine”, the sci-fi adventure novel “The Island of Dr. Moreau”, the mankind-versus-aliens novel “The War of the Worlds” and more than seventy short stories.

Auteur

  • Journaliste et romancier anglais né dans le Kent en 1866. Autodidacte, Herbert George Wells fit des études scientifiques. Un des grands pionniers de la «science-fiction». Par la suite, ses ouvrages se transformèrent en longs réquisitoires contre la société de son temps. Mort à Londres en 1946.
