Maurice Leblanc (1864 - 1941) quitte Rouen à vingt ans pour vivre de sa plume à Paris. Il y est journaliste, fréquente les cercles littéraires, publie des romans : Une femme (1893), L'Enthousiasme (1901). En 1905, à l'occasion d'une nouvelle à paraître dans le mensuel Je Sais Tout , il crée le personnage d'Arsène Lupin : c'est le début de ses " Aventures extraordinaires ".
