«Sons and Lovers» is a 1913 novel by the English writer D. H. Lawrence. The Modern Library placed it ninth on their list of the 100 best novels of the 20th century. While the novel initially incited a lukewarm critical reception, along with allegations of obscenity, it is today regarded as a masterpiece by many critics and is often regarded as Lawrence's finest achievement.

Écrivain anglais, David Herbert Lawrence, auteur du célèbre roman L'Amant de lady Chatterley (1928), est né le 11 septembre 1885 à Eastwood (Nottinghamshire, Royaume-Uni). Sa réputation de chantre de la sexualité et le parfum de scandale qui s'attache à son nom ont un peu occulté la richesse d'une oeuvre qui inclut romans, nouvelles, poésie, essais, récits de voyage, théâtre, peinture, sans compter des milliers de lettres et un manuel d'histoire. Il meurt le 2 mars 1930 à Vence (Alpes-Maritimes).
