Kathryn Lasky est née dans l'Indiana. Durant ses études à l'université du Michigan, elle se passionne pour l'anglais en général, notamment la littératue victorienne, la poésie romantique et les textes de la Renaissance. Elle a été enseignante puis éditrice avant de se lancer dans l'écriture. Auteur d'une centaine d'ouvrages pour la jeunesse, elle a obtenu de nombreux prix dans son pays. Elle vit aujourd'hui à Cambridge, dans le Massachusetts.
