Mac Barnett et Shawn Harris sont tous deux nés durant l’été 1982, ils ont grandi et vivent encore aujourd’hui en Californie. Ils sont sortis diplômés du lycée Bishop O’Dowd en l’an 2000, où ils ont écopé du super surnom commun « meilleurs copains ». À l’époque, ils ont été interloqués – ils auraient préféré avoir des surnoms séparés – mais aujourd’hui, ils en sont contents ! Leur album jeunesse A Polar Bear in the Snow (éd. Candlewick, 2020) a reçu de nombreuses récompenses aux États-Unis. Mac Barnett a également écrit plusieurs albums jeunesse traduits en France, dont Parce que (éd. Little Urban 2019), Triangle, Carré et Cercle (éd. Ecole des loisirs, 2018-2019) et Extra-doux (éd. Milan, 2014).
