The harsh winter and concrete landscape of her new home are a shock to Celiane, who witnesses her parents' struggle to earn a living and her brother's uneasy adjustment to American society, and at the same time encounters her own challenges with learning and school violence.

Née en 1969 à Port-au-Prince, Haïti, Edwidge Danticat rejoint ses parents à Brooklyn, New York, à l'âge de douze ans. Romancière et nouvelliste, elle est l'une des grandes voix de la littérature. Autrice de plusieurs livres primés, dont Adieu mon frère (2009), Le briseur de rosée (2005), Krik ! Krak ? (1997) et Le cri de l'oiseau rouge (1997), elle a publié chez Mémoire d'encrier le livre jeunesse, Célimène, Conte de fée pour fille d'immigrante (2009). Edwidge Danticat enseigne à l'Université Columbia à New York.
